Multi-day trek in Val Pellice

The Pellice Valley offers numerous options for those who want to spend several days hiking in the Alps, crossing from one valley to the next and staying overnight in refuges, inns, and mountain lodges. In addition to the treks that unfold entirely within the valley, the area is crossed by some of the most important multi-stage hiking trails in Piedmont and the Western Alps , such as the GTA, the Via Alpina, and the Grand Tour of Monviso.

You can choose from short 2- or 3-day treks , week-long loops that span the entire Pellice Valley, and long crossings that continue toward the Germanasca Valley, the Po Valley, Monviso, or France. Here, we've compiled the main routes, along with essential information to help you decide which one best suits your time and the type of experience you're seeking.

Ring of the Waldensian Valleys

The Waldensian Valleys Ring is probably the trek that allows you to fully explore the Pellice Valley. From the mid-valley and its historic Waldensian sites, you gradually ascend towards the alpine landscapes of the upper valley, passing through forests, mountain pastures, villages, and some of the main passes and refuges.

The official itinerary covers approximately 120 km in 8 stages , with a total elevation gain of over 7.000 meters. It passes through the areas of Torre Pellice, Angrogna, Villar Pellice, and Bobbio Pellice, reaching a maximum altitude of 2.694 m at Col Manzol.

Val Pellice Outdoor also offers a 7-day version of the route , slightly modified to include refuges and accommodations instead of the bivouacs included in the original itinerary. This route can be hiked independently or with a guide. The VPO route covers approximately 87 km and has a 6.000 m elevation gain.

Ring of the Pellice Valley Refuges

For those with only a few days available, the Anello dei Rifugi (Ring of Refuges) allows you to immediately enter the valley's most alpine environments. The route connects the Conca del Prà , Col Barant, Rifugio Barbara Lowrie, Col Manzol, and Rifugio Granero, passing through some of the most spectacular places in the upper Pellice Valley.

Our proposal covers three days , covering approximately 35 km and 2.500 m of elevation gain , with overnight stays in mountain huts. It can be done independently with a roadbook and GPS tracks or accompanied by a hiking guide.

GTA – Great Alpine Crossing and Via Alpina

The Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA) is one of the most important long-distance hiking routes in Piedmont: it crosses the entire regional Alpine arc for over 1.000 km, connecting Lake Maggiore with the Ligurian Alps and the Tanaro Valley.

The Pellice Valley is located in the central sector of the Turin Alps crossing , between the Susa Valley and the Monviso massif. Coming from the north, the route crosses the Chisone Valley and the Germanasca Valley, reaches Prali and passes over Colle Giulian (2.451 m) entering the Pellice Valley. After descending towards Villanova, it continues into the upper valley through the Conca del Prà , the Jervis Refuge and the Barbara Lowrie Refuge, to pass over Colle della Gianna (2.525 m) and continue towards the Po Valley and Monviso.

This stretch was also part of the historic Blue Trail of the Via Alpina , the major international hiking project connecting the regions of the Alpine arc. For this reason, both GTA and Via Alpina signs can still be found along some trails and on local maps.

Glorious Repatriation of the Waldensians

The Glorious Repatriation of the Waldensians is a trek whose historical significance is as important as its hiking value. It retraces part of the route followed in 1689 by the Waldensians on their return from exile to their valleys, passing through Alpine environments and numerous places linked to their history.

The hiking trail starts from the Piccolo Moncenisio Pass and reaches Bobbio Pellice after about 110 km and six days, crossing the Susa Valley, the Chisone Valley, the Germanasca Valley, and finally the Pellice Valley. The final stage descends from Prali towards Bobbio, passing near symbolic sites such as the Sibaud stele.

Grand Tour of Monviso

The Grand Tour of Monviso , also known as the Giro del Monviso , is one of the most popular high-altitude treks in the Western Alps. The complete loop is approximately 76 km long and allows you to tour the "King of Stone" through the Po Valley, Varaita Valley, Pellice Valley, and the French side.

The Val Pellice represents one of the natural accesses to the route: the stages cross the Barbara Lowrie Refuge , the Col Barant, the Conca del Prà and the Granero Refuge (2.377 m) , from which the trek continues towards the western side of Monviso and the Vallanta Refuge.

This is the most suitable option among those presented on this page for those seeking a true high-mountain trek, with numerous overnight stays in refuges and environments mainly above 2.000 meters.
